NuStep Basketball Academy is a division of NuStep Athletic Association, a not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to work with organizations and individuals worldwide to deliver affordable sports programming for youth in Canada. NuStep delivers programs in Toronto that help to support the growth of Canadian basketball. NuStep is home to players at every level who seek to develop to their highest potential and transform into more skilled athletes and players.
Programs include beginner to advanced drills and skills training for youth ages 7 to 15 who are interested in learning the fundamentals of the game. NuStep's Rep/AAU program is geared toward providing advanced players with high level competitive play throughout the rep basketball season. Other programs include individual and group training sessions that deliver the highest level of player development. The training system includes on-court skills training, strength and conditioning and mental conditioning. Off-court programs include nutritional planning, academic support and life skills development.

NuStep works with a dedicated and knowledgeable team committed to supporting players of all ages and skill levels. On and off-court support consist of professional coaches, educators and varsity athletes. Instruction is led by Trainer and Coach Omar Nicholls who is also a basketball instructor at the Central YMCA in Toronto, a Head Coach for the Toronto French School and was a National Technical Official for men's basketball at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

NuStep Ballers Rep/AAU Program
NuStep introduced two new Toronto expansion teams for the 2015/16 rep basketball season in the U12 Major Atom and U15 Midget boys divisions. NuStep Rep coaches and staff work with other coaches, parents and community support workers to provide atheletes with access to high level development and exposure through local and international competitive play. NuStep's Athletics and Academics program ensures players have access to elite training, health programs, academic support and more.
A number of NuStep's rep team players come from low-income families that require extra support. Donations will provide them with the opportunity to develop and excel in the sport they love, while showcasing their skills locally and internationally. Youth Drills & Skills Basketball Program
NuStep's Youth Drills & Skills program is designed to acquaint children 10-16 years old to the fundamentals of basketball while participating in skill exercises, relays and game-like situations. Players run through drills and have fun together in a healthy, competitive environment with an emphasis on building confidence and self-esteem. Small groups ensures individual attention and personalized training for participants who will each receive performance evaluations and tips at the end of each session.

In the News
In April 2014 NuStep's coach and trainer, Omar Nicholls, and his U10 novice boys OBA rep team the Durham City Bulldogs were featured in the Toronto Star and on DurhamRegion.com.
The team was undefeated in the 2013/14 OBA season with a 29-0 record and won the gold medal in division 1 at the Ontario Cup Finals.
In the Community
Houselink Community Homes provides supportive housing and recovery for people living with persistent mental health challenges and addiction issues in Toronto.
NuStep's U15 rep team helped prepare, plate and serve food at Houselink's annual holiday party held on December 10th with over 200 guests.
Riverdale Housing Action Group (RHAG) works to build, acquire, renovate and manage buildings for persons with low to modest incomes; and provide tenants with safe, affordable housing and support services in Toronto.
NuStep's U15 and U12 teams fundraised and purchased gifts for 20 of RHAG's young male tenants and also wrapped gifts that were donated by the community for RHAG's annual holiday party held on December 17th.

Omar has played basketball for over 25 years and not only enjoys the game as a player but as a coach, instructor and trainer. As a basketball instructor at the Central YMCA in Toronto, he taught basic fundamentals and game skills to children ages 3-12. He also manages the gym on teen nights and organizes games for the adult basketball programs.
For the 2015/16 season Omar was Head Basketball Coach for the Senior Girls, Junior Boys and Grade 3 teams at the Toronto French School (TFS) and Assistant Coach for Canada Basketball's Toronto Region Centre for Performance (CP-Prep) program for kids in Grades 7 & 8. He was also an Assistant Coach for Northern Secondary School's Grade 9 team and a National Technical Official for Men’s Basketball at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. Read more...
George has played REP basketball in Montreal, University basketball in Manitoba and has former IAABO Certification in refereeing. He has held coaching positions with the North Toronto Huskies, winning gold in the 2012 Ontario Cup; Canadian Basketball Academy, where he was Head Coach in 2013 & 2014; and YAAACE, where he was Assistant Coach to Carlos Wadley in CYBL for the 2015/16 season.
George is a level 3 certified OBA Coach who is currently Head Coach for Rosedale Heights Senior Boys Basketball team. He is driven to help in sponsorship, community, giving back and providing the leadership and mentorship to our leaders of tomorrow. NuStep is proud to have George onboard as Head Coach for the U17 Grade 11 team for the 2016/17 season.
Ritchie has been involved in basketball in one way or another since the age of 13. Since the 2015/16 season, he has been a dedicated Assistant Coach and Trainer for NuStep. Ritchie is committed to developing players to their fullest potential and will be pursuing his NCCP certification this Fall.
